Dissonance is a neo-classical band comprised of 18-year old Sara Hale and 22-year old Wolfram Grey.
The two met in the recreational centre of their local hospital. Sara was there for maintenance chemotherapy for acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and Wolfram for occupational therapy. It was Sara's last day of bed-rest in the hospital for a while, and, on her way out, she accidentally bumped into Wolfram, knocking several pieces of paper out of his hands. Repeating how sorry she was over and over, Sara quickly grabbed the papers and tried to hand them to him, only to realise that he was blind. Not only did she realise this, but as she placed the papers into Wolfram's hands, she also noticed that they were in fact sheets of music--
..Wolfram had been sloppily composing notes onto lines he couldn't even see.
Sara felt a terrible sympathy for Wolfram. She knew what it was like to have a physical defect limit the things you could once do so passionately. So she snuck one of the sheets away from him and left with the aspiration of lifting Wolfram's spirits.
The next day, Sara returned to the hospital with her violin. Even though she had no medical reason for being there, she felt she needed to be for Wolfram.
As soon as she found him in the recreational centre, she began to play the song that he had written on the sheet of music she took. Wolfram was amazed; he faced her directly and shed tears of joy. He then began to sing a melody of thanks along with Sara's violin, and hence, everyday after that, the two would meet and make music together. Sara even learned that, despite Wolfram's blindness, he was an expert at piano. He would play the melodies by ear and attempt to write them down, hoping to share them one day. Yet, he would always feel awful because he knew that no one would be able to understand his messy writing. But Sara could. And they have been playing together ever since the day Sara brought her violin to the recreational centre.
Now, with Sara and Wolfram both allowed off of hospital grounds for some time, they have made it their goal to share their music with the rest of the world. SIFF's Battle of the Bands for the 10th anniversary will be their first global appearance.
